Beberapa penelitian menyebutkan faktor risiko komplikasi pasca fraktur mandibula, meliputi kebiasaan merokok, penyakit sistemik, jenis perawatan yang dipilih, jenis fraktur, serta keterlambatan memperoleh penanganan medis yang tepat. Penatalaksanaan fraktur mandibula dapat non-operatif, closed reduction disertai dengan fiksasi maksila-mandibula, atau open reduction disertai dengan fiksasi internal.[1,2]
Fraktur mandibula atau patah tulang rahang terjadi sekitar 36−70% dari seluruh jenis fraktur fasial, di mana 60% dari seluruh kasus fraktur mandibula merupakan fraktur multipel. Kondisi yang menyertai fraktur ini umumnya adalah gigi geligi yang tidak selaras, perdarahan gingiva, dan kesulitan membuka rahang.[1]
